Relaxation Methods

There are many ways to help you relax with relaxation methods. Here are two relaxation methods that can be used together to maximise your relaxation.

Music relaxation methods

Music for relaxation. Music, especially calm and soothing music has a profound influence on our thinking abilities.

Classical music, for example, played in classrooms has proven to help with the learning process. This is one of many music relaxation methods.

Having the realisation that music can influence our thinking process we can use other relaxation methods to take advantage of it.

You can relax by using many different types of music. You may have noticed that different kinds of music also alters your mood. When you want to relax try these two relaxation methods. Find a quiet place where you won't be disturbed. You can either use a comfortable chair, one with a foot rest is best, or lay down. Then listen to your favourite music.

Ideally, use headphones as this will help block out background noises. You can even get headphones that have noise cancellation technology built in. These are great for silencing ambient noise.

Music is one of the best and most efficient ways to help you relax. This is why we use it in our relaxation methods.

Breathing relaxation methods

Breathing for relaxation. In addition to listening to music, practice these breathing relaxation methods exercises. Here is one way to practice breathing.

  • Inhale through your nose slowly.
  • Hold it for a moment for as long as it feels comfortable.
  • Exhale slowly through your mouth.
  • When practicing your breathing relaxation methods exercise try to keep the rhythm. This is something we want to add to our relaxation methods. Rhythm is controlled by the right side of the brain. If your right handed. Also on this side is where the imagination is found. By using rhythm you are using the opposite side of the brain that uses analysis. Racing thoughts or hyperactive analysis is one of the problems preventing us from relaxing.

Listening to music, focusing your attention on your breathing and using rhythm will significantly increase your level of relaxation. This can have a lasting affect for an hour or so after you've practiced your relaxation exercise. Practiced regularly will prolong the relaxation feeling.
